Project Overview
Baker Hughes engaged Al Eid Engineering to upgrade the material handling and utility infrastructure at their Ahmadi workshop complex — one of the company's primary service and maintenance bases in Kuwait.
The project comprised two integrated workstreams: the supply, installation, and commissioning of multiple electric overhead travelling (EOT) cranes ranging from 1T to 10T capacity, and the installation of a BOGE screw compressor system to serve the facility's pneumatic tool circuit and instrument air requirements.
All crane systems were designed and supplied to FEM 1.001 service group M4–M5 classification, appropriate for Baker Hughes' workshop duty cycle. Structural runway beams and end stops were engineered to AISC standards with gantry load transfer calculations reviewed and signed off prior to anchor installation. The compressed air system was sized for 10-bar continuous duty with a 500-litre receiver and refrigerant dryer to meet instrument air quality standards (ISO 8573-1 Class 1.4.1).
- 5 × single-girder EOT cranes (1T–5T) across workshop bays A, B & C
- 2 × double-girder EOT cranes (8T & 10T) for heavy tooling bay
- BOGE S Series screw compressor, 22kW, 10 bar
- Stainless steel compressed air distribution ring main with isolation valves
- Full load testing to FEM 2.004 at 125% SWL with third-party inspection
- PIFSS-compliant installation documentation and as-built drawings
From engineering review
to certified handover — a structured
four-phase delivery.
01. Site Assessment & Engineering
Al Eid conducted a full structural survey of existing runway beams and anchorage points. Crane capacity and runway geometry were confirmed against Baker Hughes' maintenance load schedules. A revised structural report was issued for client approval before procurement commenced.02. Procurement & Factory Testing
EOT cranes were sourced from a DEMAG-certified manufacturer and underwent factory acceptance testing (FAT) prior to shipment. The BOGE compressor was factory-tested at 100% rated flow. All documentation — CE declarations, dimensional drawings, motor data sheets — was compiled and submitted to Baker Hughes engineering for approval.03. Installation & Commissioning
Cranes were erected under a full PTW regime with LOTO applied to adjacent electrical panels. Runway beam splices were torqued and marked per ASME B30.11. The compressed air ring main was pressure-tested to 1.5x working pressure and witnessed by Baker Hughes HSE. All electrical connections were carried out by licensed Kuwait MEW electricians.04. Load Testing & Handover
All seven cranes underwent witnessed load testing at 125% SWL per FEM 2.004, conducted by SGS Kuwait as the appointed third-party inspector. Test certificates, as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and spare parts lists were bound and handed to Baker Hughes facilities management. Operator familiarisation training was provided on-site.Delivered on schedule, zero TRIR, all certificates issued at handover.
